A sunset eclipse
The Sun sits just 1° to 13° above the western horizon. You need a clear view west, and it will look spectacular: a black sun low over a glowing horizon.
Blink and you’ll miss it
Eclipse totality lasts 2 min 18 s at most, over open ocean. On Spanish land it peaks near 1 min 50 s, and near the path edges it can be ~20 seconds.
A continent-wide eclipsed sunset
Around 55 countries see at least a partial eclipse, most of Europe a deep one near sunset: Madrid and Barcelona ~99%, Paris ~92%, Berlin ~85%, London ~91%, plus Morocco and Algeria.

The trickiest skies in years
Two-thirds of the path lies over water, and experts call this one of the trickiest eclipses for cloud in years. Best odds on land: Spain and Mallorca.
